Gustav Metzger is one of the foremost figures of the post-war avant-garde in Britain.
Born in 1926, his career has spanned over 60 years of art and political activism.

Nacido en 1926, su carrera abarca más de 60 años de arte y activismo político.
The artist came from Nuremberg to Britain as a refugee in 1939, when he was 13.
He began his education as a student at Cambridge School of Art in the 1940s and lived in East Anglia throughout much of the 1950s. Two of his most significant lecture demonstrations, in which Metzger presented his ideas around auto-creation and auto-destruction, were staged at Cambridge University in 1960 and 1965.
El artista llegó desde Nuremberg a Gran Bretaña como refugiado en 1939, cuando tenía 13 años.

Visitors to Lift Off! will be submersed in Gustav Metzger’s world of creative experimentation and activism between the late 1950s and early 1970s.
This exhibition focuses on the artist most ephemeral Auto-Creative artworks, which use elements including air, water, light and natural materials such as mica or liquid crystals.
He makes visible natural processes or the physical properties of these elements, to create "art, untouched by artists".
